Bisi Bele Bhath @ Bangalore

Last week, I was in Bangalore after 10 years. So much has changed since then.  I use to stay close to the 18th cross , 4th main and now the place is another world. The Bus Stop still stands there , however, around the bus stop everything has changed.

It was a short trip to Bangalore for only 15 hours so, I had quickly recall all my favorite Bangalore food , before my return to Delhi. Finally, it turned out to be a culinary delight.

The dinner was at Orchid Restaurant of Fortune Hotel at Anand Rao Circle, where in they had a buffet of  South Indian, North Indian and some continental food for $10. Good value for money, I freaked out on the south delicacies after a very long time.

The Egg Plants Fries and Kolhapuri Curry.

Roasted Pumpkin on Coconut and Dal

The South Fare. Somehow I don't know the names of these curries, but they are essentially coconut based .

Breakfast was of Idli soaked in sambar, vada, masala dosa, poha, gobi paratha etc at the same hotel and I did not  bother to check the calories I was over consuming . Great Breakfast.

Before heading to the airport had lunch at one of the Andhra Style Restaurant , though already too full, but for Nostalgia sake.

The Banana Leaf in its Full Spread.

 The not so clean Restaurant

The spoon was served on my special request, otherwise it has to be savored with hands only.

.

The assortment of Curries had with White Rice.

And this is where I recalled that I had missed out on the Bisi Bele Bhath.

Luckily the new airport restaurant had Bisi Bele Bhath @ Rs 130. Huh, what a price. I don't recall buying Bisi Bele during my time in Bangalore for more then Rs 5 ( year 2002). Now was being dished out to me for Rs 130 . Ok Airport price, but way so high. The taste was kind of ok, but not really the one which I still have in my memory.

Taste of India Restaurant at Bangalore Airport

The Restaurant is 24 hours Busy.

                                                             Bisi Bele Bhath.
                                                             Finally after 10 Years.

                                                            Not so spicy, yet nice.

Bise Bele Bhath is essentially Rice and Yellow Split Pea lentils boiled and mixed togather with assortment of vegetables like beans, carrots, peas and then allowed to simmer with water and spices.
Topped up with curry leaves and some small Boondi Balls, it makes a very special dish.

On your next visit to Bangalore, do not miss : " Bisi Bele Bhath" . Interestingly in whole of India, you can only find this dish in Karnataka.

( Does look, the new blogger has many glitches , pls bear with google)
