Bangalore Blues!

Bangalore Revisited : Atleast on the Culinary scene , quite a lot has changed in the last 10 years. Many many new restaurants have come up , though all of them serving the same cliche menu.
Oh Calcutta giving the Bengali food to Bangalorean's : St Marks Road.

I went into O Calcutta to check the Menu! And it was quite unique.
But was wrongly priced. Most dishes around INR 350 and up. That does not sound like a nice value for a fine dining restaurant. So, I skipped it for another time.

Kebab Korner in St Marks Road : Again not a very nice eatery.
Finally A Pan Vendor1

Zafran is another new addition to Bangalore St Marks Road.
Went in to check the Menu and again the same old dishes.
Refused to Dine and Returned. Though the sit out looks elegant.

Casa Picola opened up in St Marks Road
European Food Joint since my time in Bangalore 1995 +

 Seating of Casa Picola
Click To Enlarge the Menu of Casa Picola
Actually, he should have kept the name " Casa Pakoda "

 Then comes my Penne!
Saw This Big Ad of St Marks  Hotel Lunch Buffet for Rs 430 ++
Stepped in St Marks Hotel for Lunch

 Curries and More
 Desserts and Salads.

My Guest Mr Shanker enjoying the St Marks Lunch

 Samples a little of everything.

Lord Buddha Greeting at the Entrance of St Marks Restaurant.

Next Day was at MTR Lalbaugh

Bisi Bele Bhath at MTR Lalbaugh
With Katori full of Ghee, no wonder Bangloreans put on Fat.
Had on my table two visitors from Delhi, enjoying Dosas.
The Tea also has a flavor of coffee
On Exiting from MTR, find a a big board announcing " Jalpan " as the best veggie restaurant
of Bangalore : Next Time.

Bangkok More

Sarvana Bhavan, Bangkok;
Showing Few Customers, I walked in to find, why it was not doing good.

Ordered Lemon Rice
Lemon Rice is Ok, but not really the best.
Sambar does not pass the test.
Next was the Trial of a Punju Restaurant " Punjabi By Nature"
At Silom

Vividly the Punjabi By Nature is followed by Sharab Bottles. What a Display.
Merry Making is Punjabi By Nature
View From the Restaurant

Set Meal of Sarson Ka Saag, Dal Makhani and Ras Malai with Lassi
Ras Malai N Lassi : Secret of my Fat!
The Makke Di Roti is a Disaster. Corn roti flooded with Butter.
Atleast the Sarson Ka Saag is nice.
Overall Recommendable.

Finally the Thai Local Cuisine.
My friend Khun Nop took me to a special secret recipe restaurant in Bangkok
Hidden in a Gully, the food qualifies to be exotic.
Tom Yum Soup For the Soul
Thai Green Curry. Interestingly food is addressed
as " Khao" in Thailand. Meaning " To Eat " in Sanskrit.
Yellow Rice with Fish for Khun Nop.

Khun Nop And Somjin, the Happy couple and my friends for last 20 years.
Both of them look same young since the last 20 years.
Train To Airport.
Had lots of time in my hand, so decided to take a train to airport, then a taxi.
Saved Thai Bhatt 300 , which I had paid otherwise for an Express Visa at Airport.
Parked myself at Thai Orchid Business Lounge at the Airport
Veg Noodles was an attraction : Poured hot water and had the soup; Yummy!

Actually the Street Food of Bangkok is anytime better then the Thai Airline Business or Economy class food service or the Lounge service.
Why does an Airline Catering not understand that it is their chance to offer the culinary delights of their country to visiting guest.
It is such a shame that bread sandwiches and salads are thrown in, rather, then Iconic Tom Yum soup or Pad Thai Noodles or Pineapple rice or Red Curry.

 Atleast the Cognac is there.
